Theresienplatz

Home of two major museums and at the entry of the MuseumsQuartier

Information

Theresienplatz

On the Theresienplatz, just before the Museumquartier, proudly stand two major museums facing each other: the Naturhistorisches Museum and Kunsthistorisches Museum.

In the first one, you can admire the Venus of Willendorf dating from 25.000 BC!

It is on the same Theresienplatz that a wonderful Christmas market takes place in December.

The second museum is the venue for major exhibitions, like the Fabergé Eggs in Spring 2014, Velasquez until the end of October 2014 and Arcimboldo until February 15, 2015.

Not far from there, the Austrian National Library (Hofbibliothek) features a very interesting collection of maps and globes.

Those three museums are recommended by Astrid Harz.

Of course, nearby, you also have the classics like the Hofburg with the imperial apartments, the Sissi museum and the Imperial Chapel (Hofkapelle or Burgkapelle), the Imperial Treasury (Schatzkammer), the Burgtheater, the Spanish Riding School (Hofreitschule), the Imperial Horse Stables (Stallburg and Hofstallungen),…

If you want to visit all of this, it will take you at least a day!
