Café Central

  • Cafe Central Vienna, Clayton Tang

A traditional coffee House and restaurant for a real Wiener Schnitzel

Information

Herrengasse 14 - website

Café Central is also called Ferstel Palace according to its architect’s name Henrich von Ferstel. Opened in 1876, it was then the gathering place of intellectuals and men of letters. It used to count amongst its clientele Adolf Loos, Freud and even Trotski and Lenine… If you want a traditional Viennese café where you can eat traditional food such as the Wiener Schnitzel (veal escalope fried in breadcrumbs), this is your pick. At some hours, you’ll even have a pianist playing some old tunes.

As it is an Institution in Vienna, you might have to queue a bit if you haven’t booked in advance.
