Tel Aviv Museum of Art

As in the title…

Information

27 Shaul Hamelech Blvd - http://www.tamuseum.org.il/

It’s an “old” institution, founded in 1932 by the first Mayor of Tel Aviv, Meir Dizengoff but then, it was located on Rothschild Boulevard in Dizengoff’s own house!

The museum comprises 3 buildings, one of which is in town, on Kikar Habima: the Helena Rubinstein’s pavilion for Contemporary Art. The newest addition, the Herta and Paul Amir Building, dates from 2011 and was designed by the American architect Preston Scott Cohen.

This is a remarkable building, worth a visit just for itself.

They have permanent collections as well as temporary exhibitions of local and internationally renowned artists.

If you want to know Israeli art better, the Department of Israeli Art holds a comprehensive collection of local art from the beginning of the 20th century to the present.

Don’t hesitate to eat there at the stunning Pastel restaurant, recommended by Lise Cadoch (see tip).

There is currently an exhibition of the Belgian painter Michaël Borremans. It’s on until January 2015. If you happen to be there, don’t miss it. I saw it in Brussels. It’s simply dazzling.
